Do I need a permit for Pangong Lake?

Yes, an Inner Line Permit (ILP) is mandatory to visit Pangong Lake. It is advised to keep 3-4 physical copies handy for the various army checkpoints along the route.

How long is the drive from Leh to Pangong?

You can expect a 5 to 6-hour drive from Leh to Pangong. It is roughly 160 km, but you will be crossing the high-altitude Chang La pass.

Can I stay overnight at the lake?

Definitely, most travellers stay in luxury tents or village homestays in Spangmik or Man. It gets biting cold after sunset, but the stargazing by the lake is a must.

How do I avoid altitude sickness at Pangong?
